Aim of the course

In 2016/17 alone, 49% of all fatal injuries were from working at height. According to the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) Working at Height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries. Ensuring you select the correct equipment to do the work at height is very important and learning how to use that equipment effectively and safely is even more important.

This course has been designed to do exactly that, provide the delegate with knowledge on how to perform a task using the harness and lanyard equipment correctly. Due to the implications if workers use such equipment incorrectly, this ½ day course is highly important to ensure all employees working in that environment are doing their job safely.

Course content

The overall aim of this course is to ensure anyone who works with harness and lanyard equipment, is aware of the risks and how to correctly perform their day to day tasks safely and efficiently. The course will cover the following:

  • Introduction to Harness Awareness. Selecting the correct PPE for the job.
  • Hierarchy of work at height
  • Different harness uses: Fall Arrest/Restraint
  • Inspection
  • Assessment
  • Correct fitting of PPE
  • Evaluation

Who should take this course?

Any person whose responsibility it is to work at height with a harness and lanyard system. All employers are expected to ensure that anyone involved in working with harness and lanyard systems is competent and has been trained fully. This course is suitable for many industries, for example:

  • Roofers
  • Fire & Rescue Services
  • Cleaning & Maintenance

Qualifications

To undertake this course, there is no preparation needed and all successful delegates will receive a TTS Certificate which is valid for three years.
