The latest set of COVID-19 restrictions due to come into force in England on Thursday 5th November will undoubtedly impact on the delivery of some of our face-to-face training courses.

We have implemented robust COVID-secure measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our delegates, trainers and venue staff and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in our courses this year for their willingness to adhere to the precautionary measures that have been put in place. This has enabled us to support your training needs in a safe and responsible manner during these difficult and challenging times.

Since the start of the first lockdown in March we have, like everyone else, been forced to look at other ways to deliver our services. We have been delighted with the way that our team and our customers have adapted to moving to Virtual Classrooms (VC) via Zoom to conduct training. In addition to running UKATA, BOHS, CITB and IOSH ‘VC’ courses we are now delivering the SPA/UKPIA Petrol Retail Contractor Safety Passport (Renew, Update & Refresh) via Zoom. If you would like to book onto our VC course, or move your existing classroom course bookings on to convenient VC course, please let us know.

As we enter the next Lockdown period we anticipate that our main challenge will be getting access to the venues that host our courses. Our host venues are aware that the nature of our training courses, and the delegates who attend them, are critical to the maintenance of the UK’s network of Petrol Forecourts; and are therefore deemed to be Key Worker activities. We are still awaiting feedback from many of our regular venues and will be maintaining our scheduled classroom courses in as many locations as possible until the restrictions are lifted.

With yesterday’s relaxation of Social-Distancing rules to ‘1m+’ we are increasing our classroom training program for all of our courses and look forward to seeing you and your colleagues soon.

Tersus Training Services Ltd’s priority is still, and always will be, the safety and welfare of our customers and the staff of both TTS and the venues that host our courses. Whilst we recognise that there will be an increase in demand for many of our courses as companies ramp up their own activity and operations and play catch-up with the training that was missed over the last 3 months we ask you to bear with us as we continue to impose a limit on class sizes to accommodate a 1.5m-2m safe distance between delegate seats for the time being. This will be reviewed continually as we monitor the current slow-down of the spread of COVID-19 and we will adapt our precautions accordingly to ensure that we can offer you a safe environment in which to learn.

So, what differences will you see when you attend one of our course post-Lockdown?

Our current COVID-19 precautions include:

  • > Pre-arrival online COVID-19 health check questionnaire
  • > Temperature checking of all delegates on arrival (and self-checking of our trainer) with non-contact IR thermometer
  • > Socially-distanced seating arrangements to allow for at least 1.5m between each seat
  • > Classrooms are set out as a ‘classroom’ so that all delegates are facing the front of the class rather than our pre-Lockdown ‘U-shape’ arrangement.
  • > Increased cleaning/hygiene regime and availability of hand sanitising gel and cleaning wipes for frequently touched surfaces.
  • > Introduction, where possible, of digitised processes to reduce or eliminate the potential for COVID-19 transmission via paperwork. This includes –
    • – Online registration via SurveyMonkey prior to entering the classroom
    • – End of course assessment tests undertaken online via smartphone, tablet or laptop/computer.
    • – End of course feedback via SurveyMonkey
  • > Managed use of welfare facilities to avoid close contact.
  • > Requirement for all delegates to bring their own pens, notepads, drinking vessels (cups/water bottles) to avoid COVID-19 transmission.
  • > Requirement for delegates to bring their own lunch with them to avoid the need to leave site at lunchtime.
  • > Requirement for delegates to bring and wear face covering
  • > Wearing of PPE by our trainers. Our trainers will wear visors to reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19 but still accommodate delegates who might rely on lip-reading to support their ability to hear what the trainer is saying. Additional wearing of surgical masks when the trainer needs to move around the classroom to work with individual delegates.

As the relaxation of the lockdown rules is implemented we are ready to support you with whatever you need. This includes:
– our open classroom training course program
– any in-house course at your company’s premises
– our Construction/Project HSSE Site audits
– Face to face Contractor Assurance Accreditation visits
– Face Fit Testing (Qualitative)

We encourage our customers to take advantage of our ability to deliver your required service remotely via video conferencing platforms (such as Zoom). This has proved to be a very effective way of working during the lockdown period we look forward to continuing to make good use of it in the future.

We will continue to monitor the developments of this pandemic and the UK Government’s advice and guidance on limiting the spread of COVID-19 and will keep you updated here.

Remember, if you were due to attend a SPA/UKPIA refresher course to extend/renew your expiring safety passport card during the Lockdown then please note that the SPA have put in place a blanket grace period to allow those cards that expire between 20th March and 31st July can still attend a Refresher course up until 31st July. After this date the grace period will be withdrawn completely and Refresher training must have be undertaken with the 6 month period before the card expires.
